ARK OF THE MOON

Envisioned, designed, and fabricated over the course of a few weeks during the summer of 2014, The Ark of the Moon is a 16' inflatable floating structure meant to recall the moon rising over water. The moon is made from two nested geodesic domes crafted from ripstop nylon, bushels of seam tape, a surfeit of thread, one tiny blower fan, the care, skill, and craftsmanship of many dear friends/fans of inflatable floating architechture, and was designed and engineered in collaboration with Mike Estee.

Since its first flight at Camp Tipsy, it has also appeared at the premier Figment Oakland, a festival celebrating interactive art, and as part of an immersive theatrical work exploring Heironomous Bosch's Garden of Earthly delights, where it served as the backdrop for Fallen Cosmos University.

The support, labor, craftsmanship, fundrasing, ideation and care of the following people made this project possible:

  • APRIL ARCUS
  • CASSIE CUSHING
  • CRUTCHER DUNNAVANT
  • DELIA RYAN
  • DIG VARGAS
  • JENN DOLAN
  • LARRY LANSING
  • MACK SOWERS

The Benevolent International Order
of Nomadic Nappers

BIONN is an ongoing exploration of the potential within the commons for enhanced lounging co-created by Claire Woods and Sarah Tappon. Events are typically a mix of assessing the structural integrity of public spaces, climbing, improvisational rigging exercises, conspicuous napping, and extra-low-key socializing. To date, the Order has hosted ten (official) gatherings that have raised nearly 200 hammocks in vaguely inappropriate places.
